Build a washbasin made of wood yourself

If you want to build a wood washbasin yourself, there are two basic types of construction to choose from. The sink or sinks can be hung in the table top or placed on a base. For extensions, sturdy basins and suitable connection options for the pipelines are required.

Requirements for the construction planning

In general, almost any design form can be implemented. The constructions must follow some basic conditions or depend on technical specifications.

  • The wood must be waterproof or protected accordingly
  • The connections to the wall socket must be achieved
  • The substructure or the console must be able to carry both the pelvis and Auflehngewicht safely
  • The combination must ultimately result in the ideal and desired height at the pelvic margins
  • The type of wood used must have a low own residual moisture
  • Waterlogging formers such as wall and joint joints must be closed

Construction on flat plate

Three classic construction variants can be implemented. The sinking of the sink in a wooden plate with recesses is similar to the design principle of a kitchen worktop. In this design, flexible placements of fittings are possible. For faucets or taps mounted outside the basin body, additional recesses are sufficient.

The recesses are holes, which are sawn according to the shape of the components to be used. When mounting the basins and, where appropriate, fittings, the recess or hole edges are sealed with waterproof silicone. The connection of the washbasin is easily possible because the standardized heights can be adjusted by appropriate pipe and pipe lengths.

tower variants

Particularly in modern architecture and residential aesthetics, sinks set free on a lower substructure are appreciated. Cymbal manufacturers offer ceramic and metallic products, some of which are recessed or completely set up.

As a wooden substructure can serve boards, planks, beams and discarded pallets. However, to create the space for the connections, suitable access routes must be planned. The dimensions and installation positions are predetermined by the wall openings. An access or revision possibility to the drainpipe, the odor barrier and the angle valves must be created.

Tips & Tricks

If you do not use particularly dry shrubs such as oak, chestnut, teak or cedar, you can achieve the necessary dimensional stability and water resistance by integrating a glass plate or synthetic resin spread.
