Prepare a house wall and paint it weatherproof

The new or repainting of a house wall can renew or change their appearance for many years. In most cases, the surface consists of plaster. If bare concrete or stone or facade cladding is to be painted, appropriate colors must be selected. The work requires preparation and is not difficult, but often expensive.

Take stress into account

A wall in the outdoor area is plastered or provided with facade panels. In both cases, a suitable exterior color has to be chosen that resists UV radiation and weathering. Depending on the location of the house wall, it may help to use particularly resistant colors when the surface faces, for example, the so-called wind and weather side with impact rainfall impact.

Preparation decides on success

While in the case of interior walls, the suction behavior of the substrate is responsible for the success of the coating, in the case of a building wall, it is first of all the exterior influences that must be paid tribute. In addition to precipitation, wind and sunlight, frost is also important.

The durability of the paint depends on the substrate. The brushing corresponds for the most part to a purely optical function. Functional factors are taken over by the wearing course, usually the plaster. He must be put in a perfect condition before painting. A primer is tested for durability. Crepe paper helps to prepare the walls.

Check old paint

  • Cut in slots

Small slits are placed in the facade with a cutter or wallpaper knife.

  • On the crack a crepe paper strip is glued along and removed again. It must not hang any old paint and certainly no plaster.

Clean the house wall

  • Dust-free and dry conditions are prerequisites for painting
  • Brushes and / or high-pressure cleaners are well suited for cleaning. If the plaster shows defects, they come to light during cleaning.

Condition of the plaster

  • Crumbly or crumbling plaster can not hold any color. Cracks and loose areas must be scraped off or knocked out. The best possible material trowelling repair the damaged areas.
  • For larger surfaces, a plastering of the wall must be carried out.

External conditions

  • The painting on a house wall takes several days to finally dry out. Accordingly, the weather conditions and prospects should be considered.
  • If there are any uncertainties regarding rainfall or direct sunlight, a roof or emergency cover such as a tarpaulin is helpful. For a tarpaulin spacers must be planned.

Organize the course of the strike

  • Painting a house wall usually requires a lot of time. Interrupting the work stages are commonplace. In order to guarantee a uniform color, the total amount of color should be calculated in advance and prepared in closed buckets.
  • Scaffolding, ladder or podium use are part of the planning.

Test the paint result

It is of course particularly annoying in a freshly painted house wall, when the slight lilac turns out to be a candy pink. If you paint a wall in color, you should first apply the paint on a sample surface and let it dry. Only after a check in bright daylight should continue or adjust the color mixture.

Tips & Tricks

In many cases, painting is easier when you spray the walls.
