For backfilled walls without traffic load can be dispensed with a hard, highly compacted soil on a foundation. For sloping walls as embankment attachment, the condition of the earth, the slope and the traffic load are decisive. If in doubt, always a foundation should be introduced.

In the case of the wall of plant rings, it is important to have a secure drain and the functioning water seepage. Drainage must be designed in such a way that no backwash or underwash can occur in case of increased water supply. The seeping behavior also depends on the way the wall is planted.

1. Foundation for free-standing walls

2. Foundation for backfilled wall

If you backfill the vertical wall of plant rings from one side with earth, you should pour an L-shaped foundation, which reaches on the back-filled side at least half the height of the second plant ring.

3. Sloping embankment attachment

Depending on the angle of the wall of plant rings you want to build, weight acts on the bottom row of stones. The steeper the angle, the more important and secure is a foundation.

4. Steep angle

In the angle range between 55 and 70 degrees you should think next to the foundation whether you put the plant rings in double rows. This distributes the load better, increases the angle of rise and increases the inherent stability.

5. Drainage
