Make wall panels as in the country house itself


An elegant classic among the wall panels is the paneling in half-height country house style. Wall balustrades with a final top edge profile consist of parallel wooden strips or wooden cassettes. The self-made single panels can beautify radiators and staircases in addition to continuous wall.

Cassette form or parallelism

In the simpler version, the character of a wall panel in country style can be built from wood strips attached to a frame. The half-height attachment of the wooden wall panels made by yourself ensures the visual charm.

Individual and expressive effect self-made wall panels in cassette form. Smooth wooden tablets or plates are decorated with moldings and create an antique and three-dimensional impression. With the applied decorative moldings usually recurring geometric figures and shapes are designed.

So you make wall panels in cassette form as in the country house itself

  • plywood boards
  • trim
  • Capping strip
  • Possible mounting rails
  • wood glue
  • Eventually fastening nails
  • abrasive
  • Sawing (circular, miter, miter saw)

1st draft and plan

Draw a cassette with symmetrical decorations in original size on a piece of paper or cardboard. These can be used as a pattern on the wall to judge the later effect. Decide whether the impact between two cassettes should be discontinued or invisible.

2. Zusägen the cassette carrier

Cut the required number of single plates.

3. Sawing the moldings

Depending on the pattern, saw out the moldings. For rectangular geometrical arrangements, saw the strip ends to a 90 degree miter. If you are planning offset colors, paint or paint the moldings and support plate now.

4. Put on ornamental filling

Glue the strips according to your design identically on each support plate. Fix with screw clamps and let the bonds dry for 24 hours.

5. Fasten the panels

Fix the panels to the wall according to your plan.

6. Fit end profile

Then put the upper end profile on the assembled panels throughout.

7. Paint or paint

For monochrome wall panels, dyeing is recommended after installation.

Tips & Tricks

Before attaching the wall panels, think directly at the wall of any cable ducts. If you are not sure yet which power lines or sockets are needed where you need them, you can also prepare stubs that you can use later when needed.
