The washing machine does not wash clean

Depending on the size of the household, washing machines vary in frequency but are still in regular use. Over the years, one or two malfunctions creep in. A problem that keeps appearing on new washing machines: the new washing machine does not seem to wash clean. But even with older devices, this disorder can occur. However, it is usually also completely different causes. Afterwards we have summarized for you what can come into question if your washing machine does not wash clean.

Typical features of modern washing machines

Modern washing machines are characterized in particular by low energy consumption. The power consumption of a washing machine has nearly halved in the last 20 years. The water consumption of washing machines has even dropped from just under 200 liters 30 years ago to 35 to 70 liters on modern appliances.

The low water consumption - therefore bad washing results?

If a new washing machine does not look as good as the good old machine, it is usually attributed to the low water consumption. "A little bit of water only distributes the dirt", it is often said. However, this is usually wrong and the poor washing result is more likely to be in the operation. The quality of washing depends on several factors:

  • optimal loading of a washing machine
  • temperature-sensitive detergent
  • program selection
  • Use of fabric softeners

Often there are operating errors in modern washing machines

Most washing programs run on modern machines at low temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. Prewash as well as kitchen linen are in most washes relics that have stuck out of grandma's times, but are completely outdated.

Not every detergent for every wash temperature

However, then the detergent must be adjusted to the washing temperature. Conventional detergent (heavy-duty detergent or universal detergent, even certain colored laundry detergents) depend on the technical structure of hot water. Only then can the surfactants fully develop their cleaning power.

Modern detergents

However, there are now detergents that have been specially developed for low washing temperatures. Their anionic surfactants unfold their full effect even at low temperatures. These agents should not be used at high washing temperatures.

Liquid detergent only for jet systems

Even liquid detergents are not as high quality as these detergents. Some important ingredients can not be added in liquid form. Only washing machines with a jet system can form washing powder deposits in the second suds pump, which is why liquid detergents are to be preferred here. In addition, the use of fabric softener can massively affect the washing power of detergents. Most people do not even know about the effect of fabric conditioners and then probably would not use them anymore.

Fabric softeners reduce the washing power of detergents

The cationic surfactants remain in the textile fiber during softening - they seal them down and penetrate the fibers completely. At the next wash, the anionic surfactants must then be literally wasted removing the softener surfactants again. Thus, each detergent loses in detergency.

Too short a washing time indicates too little water

If the washing time for a new or modern washing machine (but of course also for older appliances) is always very short, this may indicate that not enough water is available. If the washing machine without water or is supplied with too little water, it drives only a basic program to pump this water can. However, then a corresponding error message would have to be present in the error memory.

Is the heating heating?

For older devices but may also be a defect in heating. Washing machine does not heat at all, even laundry detergents for low temperature ranges can not get the laundry clean because the minimum temperature even for modern "cold detergents" is still at least 20 degrees Celsius.

Various other defects

But of course, even with older devices, the amount of water can be wrong. Again, there are again numerous causes, ranging from a defect in the air trap to a worn lye pump.

Tips & Tricks

Many people do not even know what softener effect. Therefore, first of all a question: do you know someone who would lather his washed and dry laundry before wearing it? Probably not. That's exactly what happens during softening. The surfactants are washed into the fibers. Thus, you always have skin contact with the surfactants when worn. The disease options range from simple allergy to promoting skin cancer. Therefore, today more and more people refrain from softener.

Instead, you can use vinegar. Vinegar has an antibacterial effect, creates neutral scent and decalcifies (white vinegar). Shake laundry after drying on a leash vigorously, the laundry is also immediately pleasantly soft and fluffy.

If the washing machine is too full, this can also affect the washing effect. Just when you have purchased a new washing machine, still overload it out of the habit of how you had loaded the old machine. Put dirty laundry in the drum. At the top then one hand wide (upright) should remain space - then the washing machine is optimally loaded.
