Backfilling and plastering washed concrete

The plastering of washed concrete is similar to the plastering of other stone surfaces. Main difference is the filling of the cavities in the surface, which is easily made possible by a correspondingly higher amount of plaster. For vertical washed concrete surfaces, a reinforcing mat can be embedded in the plaster.

Conventional plaster construction

When plastering washed concrete, the conventional structure of plaster is applied. On the first applied adhesive bridge of the flush is distributed, optionally introduced a reinforcement mat and finally applied the top coat.

In order to embellish washed concrete slabs, plastering is often chosen as the basis for later painting of the surface. After completion, the washed concrete is no longer recognizable as such.

How to plaster washed concrete

  • cement mortar
  • lime cement plaster
  • water
  • Possibly reinforcing mat
  • high pressure cleaner
  • Root brush or scrubber
  • trowel
  • Putzsprühgerät
  • mixing paddle
  • drilling machine
  • bucket
  • Aluminum Peel

1. Clean

Thoroughly clean the washed concrete without the use of cleaning agents. A high-pressure cleaner is best and you can remove individual green growth with the brush or the scrubber.

2. Maybe lose weight

If you want to plaster a vertical washed concrete surface, you can make the work easier by removing the plates. If dismantling and reapplying are too time-consuming, leave it alone.

3rd primer

Mix a strong liquid cement mortar or special primer mortar according to the manufacturer's instructions. Spray or spray it evenly on the washed concrete with the cleaning trowel or the sprayer. Make sure that it reaches and covers all voids between the pebbles.

4. Flush

Use the drill with agitator attachment to stir the lime cement in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. For under and over plaster, use products from the same manufacturer. The flush is used on washed concrete as filling mass. If necessary, apply reinforcement mats while "throwing" the plaster with the trowel. Smooth the surface roughly.

5. Surface plaster

The finishing coat will be applied as a finish that will shape the visible surface. If you are using decorative plaster, process it as specified by the manufacturer. As a substrate for later painting, smooth the plaster with some water splashes and an aluminum scraper.

Tips & Tricks

For very coarse washed concrete with large cavities, the flush can also be performed with lime mortar. Pay attention to the conformity of the product with the finishing plaster.
