Remove water stains on leather after 4-step analysis

The best known are the water edges, which form in wet seasons on the shoes. You will be allowed to dry and remove shoe polish. If there are water spots in the leather of car seats or on sofas, apart from drying, it usually only helps to try out different removal methods.

Cause detected and stain banned

The difficulty in removing water stains from leather is recognizing whether the stains are lime, water minerals, or other dried liquids. Another decisive factor is the color fastness of the leather, which is determined by the production method and quality.

In order to be able to remove water spots on the sofa, on the car seat or in clothing in the best possible way, a multi-stage analysis of the stain on the cause of the dirt should provide information. The more thoroughly the analysis is carried out, the more accurately the appropriate cleaning agents and removal methods can be found.

Four-level stain analysis

1. appearance

The width of the edges indicates the spot maker. Lime provides narrow contrasting rings with a smoldering course in the center of the stain. The larger the water spot has spread, the safer it is to thin water. Tougher liquids such as juices or fatty substances barely "run". By "rolling" small leather beads through the fingers, the depth of the water spots can be estimated.

2. Consistency

If the stain shows signs of hardening, encrustation or stickiness, it is usually a different liquid than water. For very soft leather such as nappa or velours, the surface can be felt within the stains with maximum light stiffening.

3. smell

The stained areas should be slightly warmed, with mostly hand warmth and easy scratching and kneading sufficient. The water marks should smell like any non-polluted part of the leather. Odor differences give indications of other pollutants. Careful warming with a hair dryer can help with the smell test.

4. taste

If a suspected polluter is suspected of being polluted, a taste test can provide certainty. From the moistened spot a sample is taken with a cotton swab. Before that, the taste of the waddle tip should be tested in order to be able to recognize the possible taste nuances.
