Which wall color suits me and my rooms?

What were the times easy in the past! In a renovation, only a single shade was usually used when painting walls: white. Fortunately, the private living world has become much more colorful nowadays, but the choice of matching wall paint is also more difficult at the same time. From dark red to light blue over turquoise to cream, everything is just right - we point the way through the thick clouds of color.

Primary colors and their effect: what color is it supposed to be?

All colors of the earth are due to three primary colors and their mixed tones, in addition to black and white. The three basic tones and their direct mixed colors, the so-called secondary colors, the following effect is awarded:

hueEffect on humans
redwarming, revitalizing, appetizing, aggressive
purplecalming, mystical, appetizing, protective
bluesleep-inducing, relaxing, refreshing, cool
greenharmonizing, pain-relieving, creativity-enhancing
yellowwarming, conducive to concentration, imaginative, cheerful
orangesociable, warm, optimistic, comfortable

The same applies to colors as to food: the dose makes it! Above all, the strong tones should be used rather sparingly, otherwise they have a chilling effect and their positive effect is reversed.

Which wall color best suits you and your premises is therefore not only a question of taste, but also a question of effect and dosage.

Cool or warm wall paint: in which direction should it go?

Orange, red, brown and their blends are considered warm, while white, blue and green are perceived as cool. The bright lime green with high yellow content accordingly moves back in the warm direction, while a very bright, slightly greenish lemon yellow looks cooler than a sun yellow.

Any cool color can therefore be "warmed" by adding warm components, and any warm clay can be "cooled" by adding cool parts. If you like it fresh, bright and activating, then opt for a cool wall paint, for more cosiness choose a warmer tone.

But be sure to pay attention to one thing: Small rooms look visibly bigger with a cool, light coat of paint, while visually reducing a large room with a darker, warmer color scheme. This effect can also be specifically exploited through the coloring of isolated wall surfaces.

Still insecure? With the RAL palette for matching wall paint!

You still do not know, after these explanations, which wall color you should choose for your room, because that is far too theoretical? It is also practical! Obtain yourself in the hardware store, on the Internet or at local retailers a RAL range, preferably in fan shape.

In such a color card system, all the relevant tones are recorded, you can scroll to your heart's content and happily combine different wall colors. And if you are sure, just order your favorite sounds by stating the RAL number!

Tips & Tricks

If you want to find out which wall paint is good for your soul in the long run, then first strike a fairly large, but limited sample surface in a selected favorite tone. Live with it for a few days, and if you feel comfortable painting the rest of the room.
