What do you have to consider if you want to change carbon brushes in a washing machine?

The change of the carbon brushes is a task that is certainly incurred at least once during the life of the washing machine, since the motor carbons are simply wearing parts. How to change the coal, you can read here.

Different models

Not all washing machines have the same structure. For some machines, therefore, you can change the coals and their housings; for others, you have to change the coals individually, together with the holders.

Above all, make sure that the motor is turning to the right or left. Depending on the engine variant you need coals that are marked with either a green or a blue dot, and are beveled on different sides.


For most machines, you do not need to unscrew the back panel. The engine is almost always accessible from below, meaning you only need to put the machine on its side.

Tips & Tricks

If you have no experience and are unsure, it is best to leave the coal change to a specialist. Improper work on the engine can always lead to the destruction of the machine.
