Paper window reveal - how is it done right?

Wallpapering the window reveal is a tricky problem to avoid visible edges. In this guide is therefore revealed how professionals do it.

To be papered areas at the soffit

  • left side panel to the window frame
  • Right side panel to the window frame
  • upper part of the window reveal

Begin each time with the side panels of the soffit. The top is papered at the end. This ensures that the overlaps fit exactly. The technique corresponds largely to the wallpapering of corners.

Wallpapering with patterned wallpaper

For patterned wallpaper the pattern course has to be considered. That's why people work here from left to right.

After the left side panel, the tops are papered, then only the right side panel. The panels of the top must be trimmed according to the pattern so that the pattern continues correctly even in the area above the window.

Wallpaper with woodchip wallpaper

In Raufasertapeten is the same procedure as in patternless wallpaper. Only the projection on the soffit edge is limited here to about 2-3 cm.

Double seam cut

The double seam cut is a technique that allows wallpaper strips to collide seamlessly.

When wallpapering window reveals, the double seam cut above the window reveal is used for the overlapping webs to ensure a seamless abutment of both webs.

The excess paste must be removed here immediately.

Paper window reveals - step by step

  • Murals
  • paste
  • wallpaper ruler
  • tape measure
  • Pencil to mark

1. Paper the left window area

Place a wallpaper sheet on the left side of the window so that it covers the entire window reveal. At the window frame she should still have about 1 cm supernatant.

This supernatant may also be larger if necessary. It always depends on where you can start the train at the previous track.

Set the wallpaper strip so that it fits exactly. Mark the edge of the window reveal and cut the web at this point.

Now glue the sheet so that the lower part (under the cut) covers the window reveal. Exactly press in the corner of the window frame and cut along the window frame. The upper part (above the notch) is glued to the part above the window.

2. Paper right pane

Lay the wallpaper strip with approx. 1 cm projection on the window frame and mark the cut. Cut in and, like the left hand web, glue the lower part over the right side face, glue the part over the cut above the window.

The right part is pulled tight around the edge and glued to the wall. This should be done as accurately as possible to get a clean corner. Cut off the overhang along the window frame.

3. Paper the area above the window

Apply a sheet at the top of the window frame with the overhang. Pull firmly around the edge and glue it in place. Where this middle lane overlaps the two lateral overlaps, make a double seam cut.

Cut in the overlap area from top to bottom. Pull off the existing edge strips and press the strips firmly together. Tighten the seam area.

Tips & Tricks

The double seam cut fits everywhere, where tracks are to be adjusted exactly to each other. It can also be applied to wallpapering in many other problem situations.
