The clogging of windows is determined by the current technical structure of a window. Often, little attention is paid to the clogging of windows. But the mess is quite a demanding job. In the following, we will explain what is important when smacking a window.

The construction of a window

A window consists of several components that are connected to each other. Below we name these from the inside to the outside including the surrounding façade components.

  • Glass sheets (several consecutive as multiple glazing) with surrounding frame connected to a composite window
  • casement
  • window frame
  • Window niche (window reveal or lintel and windowsill)

The messing up of modern windows

Since modern windows are now executed as composite windows, they can be used in almost any window sash. But it is important that the composite window sits firmly and correctly in the sash.

Materials to mess up

To ensure this, a window must be blocked. Traditionally, these are hardwood wedges (often also mounting rests). But modern, triple-glazed heat-insulating windows, for example, have an enormously high weight. This means that the requirements for the blocks have also increased. These are offered today from different materials.

  • Wood
  • polypropylene
  • polyamide
  • polyethylene

There is a distinction between different requirements

The cuddles are divided into two different groups, which are based on their requirements.

  • supporting blocks
  • spacer blocks

The carrying blocks

The supporting blocks must thereby optimally derive the weight of the glazing on the wing. If the blocks are positioned incorrectly, the weight is also dissipated unevenly. As a result, a one-sided load on the built-in window sash may be an undesirable consequence. In a conventional turn / tilt window while up to four support blocks are used. The material of the blocks must be matched to the weight of the glazing.

The spacer blocks

The spacer blocks on the other hand ensure that the glazing is exactly in the optimum position within the wing. In addition, the spacer blocks are also important if the window is loaded later in everyday life (open, close). Even then, the secure fit of the spacer blocks must be ensured. In the just mentioned use of four supporting blocks two spacer blocks are mounted.

Position of the blocks

As already mentioned, the blocks have to be blocked in the right places. Otherwise, the weight is unevenly discharged (supporting blocks) or the glazing may slip (spacer blocks).

Likewise, it is also possible that the entire glazing in the wrong Verklotzen gets under tension and the glass jumps. Often this is not even recognized as Baumangel, but rather the wrong operation of a window suspected.

Optionally cloak a window

In order to know where the blockage takes place, it is important to distinguish the window pages by name.

  • handle side
  • Hinge side (opposite)

The typical blockage of a turn / tilt window (hinge side viewed from the inside right): bottom right and bottom right side each one support block. Diagonal to (handle side) top left and laterally top left each a support block. The spacer blocks would now be mounted lower left and laterally top right.

Width of the blocks

The width of the blocks must at least follow the width of the glazing. A bit wider would be even better. Under no circumstances may the blocks be narrower, because then the contact surface would not be optimal. Instead, the glass weight would only be dissipated to a small area of ​​the block. This creates a very high tension in the glass, it can tear.

It can also happen that such too narrow blocks tilt and then stand diagonally. In this case, it could even happen that the glass rests only occasionally. This results in an extremely high voltage, the glass will tear or shatter very quickly.

The sealing

In the subsequent sealing (for example, silicone), make sure that the correct silicone is used. Otherwise it could attack plastic blocks as well as glazing components.

Tips & Tricks

When Verklotzen can be done a lot wrong. For example, the distance to the window corners should be a block length. In addition, there are the requirements already mentioned in terms of width and wearing characteristics. But it is also relatively "normal" that some mechanics pay no attention to the Verklotzen. This quickly leads to a tree fishing. Especially with new buildings, you should pay attention to this at the latest at the construction acceptance and even later, if the glass breaks or jumps, possibly consult an expert. After all, there is a 5-year warranty.
