Repairs to the wood

The most difficult repairs always have to be done on untreated wood, as you can not apply varnish or colored wax to cover the traces of the repair.

1. Fine scratches and chafing

In the hardware stores and also on the Internet, there are practical retouching pencils in different wood tones. Always use a slightly too light pencil first and work towards the right wood tone. You should use at least three different color gradations and use the darker tones very carefully and sparingly. After all, the wood does not always have the same color and only lives through the variety.

2. Cracks, scratches and notches

Also in every hardware store you will find today small sets of colored wood wax. Any scratches you want to remove should be well scraped out. Then, again, a lighter color of the wax pencils is slightly melted again.

If you have an old child iron is ideal for that. For many of these sets, however, even small melters are included. Use a small spatula or a piece of wood to press the wax into the notch. Tint the shades a little until you have a good blend that matches the grain of the wood.

If the floor is painted, you can dab now a little clear paint. But you should be very careful. Otherwise, it is not mandatory to seal the wax correction.

3. dents and small holes

Dents of high-heeled shoes or fallen objects in the planks can be smeared just like smaller holes with wood putty or wood paste. Normally, the paste is poured in slightly higher than the bottom and the supernatant is later abraded. But for a natural soil, it makes sense to fill the paste just plan. By drying, the wood paste shrinks slightly and you can then adjust the color as described in point 2 above with wax.

4. Continuous cracks, broken fragments and unusual branches

You should saw out large imperfections with a mini-circular saw and replace it with a new piece of wood. For knotholes, there are even substitutes in the various wood colors in the trade. These small spare parts are barely visible later.

Tips & Tricks

If you replace a larger piece of wood, the color of the new piece of wood is usually too light. However, wood can darken well with black tea. You can make the tea a little stronger and then pat with a soft cloth.
