Step by step clean wooden planks on the terrace

  • Wood cleaner for terraces
  • Holzentgrauer
  • Wood oil for outside
  • old cotton rag
  • spatula
  • abrasive paper
  • sander
  • brush
  • scrubbing brush
  • bucket

1. Scrub and clean

If possible, do not use a high-pressure cleaner for cleaning, especially if the wood is already longer and slightly damaged. With a scrubber and a special cleaner for deck wood, the wooden plank is cleaned much gentler. If the wood has turned gray and you do not like it, it is important to use a degreaser for cleaning. The grooves of the wooden planks can be scratched out with a spatula.

2. Dry and sand

After cleaning, the terrace must dry well before you can start sanding. If there is no roof over the wooden deck, you can put a gazebo or a tarp over the wood. But make sure that the tarpaulin does not rest on the wood, so that the moisture can be removed.

Then the wooden floor is easily sanded with a 100 or 120 grit. Grinding in this case only serves to make the wood more receptive. The wood oil can penetrate better and deeper into the wood.

3. Maintain and protect

For a terrace made of wooden planks you should not use lacquer, but a high-quality oil, which is especially suitable for outdoor use. This is applied with a soft brush always floorboard for plank on the wood. If you have applied too much oil, you can immediately resume it with a cotton rag.

Tips & Tricks

Instead of a scrubber, you should buy a special cleaning brush with height-adjusted bristles for the ribbed decking. This is, similar to the scrubber attached to a handle and cleans very well in the grooves of the terrace. The nylon bristles get into each groove and push the dirt off the patio.
