Combat the woodworm with isopropanol

Cleaning alcohol in the household is an all-rounder. The isopropanol is attached to many disinfecting detergents. As a pure substance, it is deadly to the woodworm when it reaches it despite the high volatility. It is more harmless than chemical methods. Soldered paints, varnishes and explosion risk accompany the application.

Residue-free aid

One of the effective and non-toxic home remedies for controlling woodworm is pure cleaning alcohol. Its high volatility makes it a little harder to use, but it does not leave any residue or odor.

Unlike with vinegar and alcohol, there is no permanent odor development. The volatile alcohol must be applied in doses to avoid the risk of explosion. Therefore, the amount of use limits are set.

Compatibility and volatilization

In order to distribute the woodworm out of furniture with isopropanol, it must first be checked whether paint, varnish, glaze or other foreign materials adhering to the wood tolerate the alcohol.

In order to counteract the volatilization, applying and covering as quickly as possible is necessary. How the wood can be "wrapped up" quickly and thoroughly should be prepared.

To combat the woodworm with isopropanol

  • Pure cleaning alcohol (96 percent)
  • Painters film
  • duct tape
  • Paintbrush and / or Quast

1. Secure workplace

Evaporating isopropanol is highly flammable and can quickly form clouds over the treated wood. Set up your workplace so that it is well ventilated, or better still, outside.

2. Apply alcohol

Soak the paintbrush generously in isopropanol and paint the wood thoroughly and quickly.

3. sealing

For smaller items and furniture, quickly pack the wood in painter's film to stop volatilization. Seal the covered wooden surfaces with adhesive tape.

4. Allow to act

Give the isopropanol three days to develop its effect in the wood. With wood cross sections and thicknesses from about five centimeters, the alcohol will probably not reach all the depths of the wood.

Tips & Tricks

Dose the amount of isopropanol. If too high concentrations occur in the air, there is a high risk of explosion. As a guideline, do not work more than half a square meter of wood surface in one operation.
